If you could turn back time…

Yesterday I watched the Ted-presentation Kevin Kelly gave about the next 5,000 days of the web again.  Really a great presentation that makes you think how fast things went the past 5,000 days and where we will be in the next 5,000.  Really great presentation… watch it here.

It makes you wonder what you could’ve done better in the past or not at all.  I remember spending about 3 days trying to figure out the whole Second Life thing and failed miserably.  And if someone would tell me the specs about microblogging and it being the ‘next big thing’ I would’ve laughed in his face.  We’ve seen and tried so many new applications, ideas, technologies,… some of them stayed, some of them faded away, but they all managed to do one thing and that’s generate more ideas, faster than ever before.

So if there’s one thing that I have learned about these past 5,000 days is that I want to try as much as I can, whatever the ‘next big thing’ may be.  Not because I’m afraid I’ll lose whatever ‘early adopter’-advantage I may have, but because it’s exciting and you never know where it leads you.  Sure, I’ll never get back the time I tried figuring out Second Life, but at least it gave me a sense of awareness about the online community trends we’re all exploring right now.
