It’s just a waste of talent

The great thing about freelancing is that you’re responsible for the proper guidance of your own talent.  If you don’t perform by the best of your abilities you probably won’t last long in the business.  Talent is what keeps you going and it’s what keeps you motivated when times get though.

And most freelancers know this very well, heck, it’s probably the reason why they went freelance in the first place.  They got tired of seeing other people profit from their ideas.  And I’m not talking about financial profit in the first place, but the idea that you can never ‘claim’ an idea as 100% your own.

It’s a different story when you work for an employer.  In most cases you start with the idea that you were hired because you were the right person for the job.  The most talented of those who presented themselves to the company.  You start of like a rocket, with loads of ideas, things you want to change for the better because that’s what you were hired to do.  But the victories are much smaller.

And than it starts, a difference of opinion with your employer, colleagues who just don’t understand what you’re trying to do,… it feels like even though you were hired because they thought you were the most talented, they still don’t trust that talent.  Victories become smaller and you probably have to share them with people who keep your victories from becoming great ones.  You get demotivated and it seems like a long time ago since you had lots of great ideas.

You remain with the feeling that you’re talent is being wasted.  And the sad thing is… it’s probably true.
