Dress for the occassion

“Don’t dress for the job you have, dress for the job you want.”
Some truth in there, but what if I worked at a convenience store putting groceries in a bag and I wanted to be a Wall Street broker? Or if I’m a Wall Street broker but actually want a job at a scientific research lab? Does that mean I have to wear a suit to the shop? Or a labcoat to Wall Street?

It’s a metaphor, meaning you have to follow your passion. You have to find what you really want in life. Nothing’s more difficult then trying to figure out how your life should look like in 3/5/10 years. Because, in a nutshell, it means figuring out what your talents are.
Passionate people always look like they are in the right spot on the right time, it seems like they’ve been blessed, while in fact, they just intuitively try to achieve their goals. If you want to become a successful marketeer but haven’t been to a seminar, if you want to become a doctor but didn’t even bought a biology book, if you want to be that Wall Street broker but didn’t bother to look into the financial crisis, where’s the passion?
Finding your passion is the first step in making any changes. If you don’t find what it is and just stare at a wall all day, nothing will happen. You can blame anyone else, you’re still the one who has to take the first step. Buy that book, learn French, go to evening seminars,…
