Can you make a difference?

“Why bother, there are too many blogs already, why would anyone read mine?”
“In a world where everyone has an opinion… what difference can I make?”
If you think too long and too hard about questions like these… stop! Don’t start! It’s not for you. Besides, if everyone thought like this… nothing would happen would it? It amazes me at how much time people spend planning stuff and never executing it. Their wildest dreams are running freely in their heads, but they don’t act. So yeah… you can make a difference. And it’s the time to do it! (with the New Year and all…)
1. Take a piece of paper and a pen and write on top of the page ‘once upon a time I had some dreams’
2. Write down at least 10 things you want to do in 2009. Don’t have any restrictions. If you want to become president of the United States, than by all means, write it down! After every item, leave a blank space for extra notes.
3. Look at the list… have a drink… You did great!
4. Use the blank spaces below every item to quickly make some notes how you can achieve your dream. If you want to blog, subscribing to Wordpress or registering a domain name would be first on that list.
5. Frequently look at the list, scribble some more on it when you achieved something, when you want to add stuff,…
The key is to take small steps. People always see the beginning and the end and hardly ever notice the middle. People who want to start blogging see the beginning (Google search), and you see how you want it to look like (f.e. Problogger) and they are overwelmed, they don’t see the small, easier steps, to get to that point. One difficult task is often just a series of small, easy tasks. So use the blank space below your dream to dissect it into small steps towards your dream. And because it started about blogging, here’s a list you could use to make it all happen.
10 steps from blank page to blog.
1. Write down a few topics you want to blog about. What are you passionate about? ($ = free)
2. Find a name for your blog. ($ = free)
3. Subscribe to Wordpress, Blogger or any other service. ($ = free)
4. Register your domain name with hosting or you can use a domain forwarding service to your blog. ($ = 50)
5. Start setting up your blog. How do you want it to look, what do you want people to find on it? ($ = free)
6. Write your very first post and hit publish. ($ = free)
7. Find a writing frequency you can manage. You don’t have to write every day, but people want a pattern. So make it manageable. If you think you can write 3 times a week, don’t force yourself to write more. ($ = free)
8. Stay informed. If you write about movies, subscribing to Entertainment press releases is a good idea. ($ = free)
9. Promote your blog. (If you want to spend something, use it on business cards $ = 50)
10. Don’t get discouraged if ‘it’ doesn’t happen soon. Give it time to grow and keep posting with the frequency you can manage. ($ = free)
TOTAL AMOUNT: 100$ (the best things in life are free!)
And last but not least, never doubt about what you do. If you’re not sure what you’ve written down is good enough. Hit publish and see how people react. You’ll learn, we all do.
